8April1996

My dear folks

Short and sweet. One night to go. The first three have been pleasantly busy without being unmanageable! And it’s been a pleasure to cycle in and cycle back along near empty roads. Would that they were more often that way. It’s been the loveliest weekend too. The weather - what little I’ve seen of it - was made to measure. Quiet sun-filled mornings and evenings!

For two of the three nights I was asked to prepare a package on the Easter rites taking place in Rome. We had stunning pictures both on Friday and Saturday of the Way of the Cross at the Colisseum and the ceremonies in St Peters. But they were liturgies in which my colleagues hesitated to dabble for fear of committing some unintended blasphemy and bringing down the wrath of the church on their heads. As my former religious status is well known, I was promptly despatched downstairs to interpret them - something which I did with some pleasure.

Mavis has been in his element, free to spend his day eating Pooh Pooh’s food downstairs and wandering around Pooh Pooh’s domain before retiring upstairs to eat his own & relax, suitably exhausted beneath his sunlamp.

Thank you Jones for your fax. I have taken several more Quinta calls as well as spending a frustrated half hour trying to reply to someone whose number was not clearly discernible. I spoke to several people, none of them the original caller, before giving it up as a bad job.

There, I’m going to dive into the bath, have a bite, take a final nap & set about earning another dollar or two.

Much love
T
