My dear folks,
Saturday evening, a quiet grey one. Most of the world seems to have fled for the long weekend and that suits me just fine. There were horrendous reports of traffic jams yesterday as foul weather combined with the holiday exodus to snarl the main roads in every direction. I was not sorry to be working, nor am I again tonight. It makes so much sense to work when the world sleeps and vice versa.
I have seen my latest tenants into their flat, thankfully. It was relatively easy as these things go & will be jolly useful pocket money. They came around yesterday evening to sign the documents which I had prepared with some care, leases, inventories, details of energy accounts! Fingers crossed that things go well. Some tenants are a pleasure to deal with; others a proper pain in the exhaust pipe, forever complaining or failing to pay the rent. I don’t know how I ever got into it.
Very little news at home. Even the beef crisis seems to have gone away for the weekend. The best lead the media could muster tonight was opposition doubts about the government’s plans to reveal details to employers of potential employees’ convictions, a horribly complex matter of safeguarding various people’s rights. Of far more interest was the England vs. India cricket - a nailbiting match, which England won - and the golf. Also, the country’s top rugby union and rugby league teams have clashed for the second time. First time they played league rules and the league champions won handsomely. This time, the situation was reversed. Both times made for spectacular games. As both groups have gone professional, there are questions over whether they may well merge at some point. I can’t see it. Too many irons and interests in the fire.
Thank you Cathy for your faxes & letter. I have been thinking of you settling back in - if that’s the expression, and of your horrible episode with the dentist. I had one such & fervently hope it was the last. And Jones I have rejoiced to see evidence of the fine weather you ought to be enjoying now and for some time to come. I have been preparing a daily diary of events/visitors to cover my trip to the Quinta but cannot find details of exactly when Rob and Carol are to arrive. Do you have their flight details? I have bought sausages, hummous & tarama, as well as some small pots of spicy mustard which I hope will please you. I do look forward to unwinding and drinking some excellent glasses of wine. Say hi to Jim and co. Hope it goes well with them.
Hi also Calgarians. Hope life treats you well.
Let me get this off. Then myself to work.
Blessings
T
